Lately I've been shopping online on a budget for spring time: plaid, pleated skirt, denim, prints, bold and bright, neutral colours. I just love the thrill of waiting for a parcel and the search for the right occasion to wear my new clothes. Who doesn't?
My last purchases are getting lonely hanging in the draw. I think they want to be seen... and be worn!

Decidi garimpar pechinchas on-line, peças básicas que seguem as novas tendências: xadrez (não necessariamente `na moda` mas, sempre parte do meu estilo), plissé, jeans, maxi-estampas, vibrantes e uma peças neutra. Adoro a expectativa da entrega e a espera pela ocasião certa pra usar a nova produção. Todo mundo curte isso, não é?

Taking style clues from Gucci and Chloe, I decided to shop for neutral-hued pieces. Visiting Mango Outlet, I found a bolero very similar to the one Gucci presented on the catwalk. From the runways to the subways, my pretties! I choose the bone version. I am looking forward to receive it and pair it with a nice neutral dress and great accessories.

Prints are making up a lot of collections for spring/summer 2011. The 'inspired by an epic tale of mysticism' looks, as seen on the SS11 London Fashion Week, presented glorious floral designs, paisley and botanical prints. Browsing some ideas on how to incorporate some prints into my wardrobe, I found excellent ideas. From hight street designs to exclusive pieces, there is a vast choice. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. Topshop Unique Collection just arrived and for 200 GBP I could have a 100% silk pink print jumpsuit. However, I decided to snap up bargains. There's a certain thrill in bargain shopping that comes with the hunt and when you finally find something for a fraction of the price that still gives the seasons' look that counts, well... what can I say? Mission accomplished?!

A London Fashion Week apresentou varias estampas florais, paisley (basta pensar nas estampas Liberty!) e um jardim botânico inteiro (imaginem as estampas da chita brasileira). Procurando o que incorporar no meu guarda-roupa para a próxima temporada, achei ótimas alternativas, das mais carinhas como a Unique Collection da Topshop a`s mais econômicas. Gostei muito do jumpsuit (já chamado de `macacão`nos anos 70) de seda pura. Custo: 200 pounds. A tendência das calças estampadas (print pants) já passou pela Europa e parece que somente agora está chegando ao Brasil. Vi, em alguns blogs, looks interessantes do que estivemos usando aqui na Primavera Verão 2010: calcas pijamas, com shape carrot ou odalisca, afunilada no tornozelo e com volume nos quadris. Lembro-me bem das estampas de Dries Van Noten ano passado.
Para a Primavera Verão 2011, as estampas de Dries deram lugar a lantejoulas em composições florais, com rico efeito 3-D.

Reading SPFW catwalk reviews I tracked the socks with sandals trend that was so hot in Europe last year. It seems it just arrived in Brazil. What seemed to me so tacky suddenly became fashionable?
Socks with sandals are the elementary school favorite (think about Gossip Girl and, even before that, Clueless) and it is a tricky trend. For the right look, I rather go for bright colors or unconventional patterns and socks made with thin materials.

Controlando os desfiles do SPFW, encontrei inspiração nas sandálias com meias da Ghetz, uma tendência que andou muito de moda em 2009 na Europa e que parece ainda vai estourar no Brasil.
O que parece sinônimo de mau gosto virou moda? Eu me lembro bem das cenas de Gossip Girl e Patricinhas de Beverly Hills (Clueless). Para não errar, aposto em meias finas de cores vibrantes, contrastantes com as sandálias ou com estampas interessantes e inusitadas.

If I want to make a special gift and I am short of ideas, I rather go for a birthstone which are gemstones that symbolizes the month of birth in the Gregorian calendar. January s birthstone is garnet.
For a personalized choice of gift it does not necessarily have to be an authentic gem. A glass or crystal bead of the same color does just great.

The thrill of unpacking gifts, isn’t it the best part of holidays? I love buying gifts, wrapping them in special paper, ribbons, and cards with handwritten notes. A simple gift can became an extraordinary present whereas packaged with love.

Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Marilyn Monroe were equal in the fame game but Jackie had every sort of societal advantage since she was born while Marilyn had an uncertain childhood. They are both legendary and represent two opposite role models for women. They came from the 50s, a time where a rather limited way of thinking dictated two opposite social roles for women - wife/ mother versus working women (work being a much limited choice, like nursing or teaching or perhaps being a secretary).

Last week I wrote about Scarface and Elvira Hancock’s sexy sophistication. Then I went shopping and all I wanted was a red dress like Elvira’s.

I think it is no secret I love Fashion and Cinema. When those arts meet, I just get over excited.
I often look at movies as source for style inspiration. I am not looking for celebrities’ fashion. Most of the times, I just try to tap into the mind of the costume stylist to get that particular detail so much important to help come out the character’s personality. And I have to confess I try to add it to my own wardrobe.

It is not easy because dressing up exactly like a movie character is not my intention. Even if I wanted, I probably couldn’t. It is hard to work a Hollywood look into my not-so-Hollywood life. Often, all I need is that mood, detail or concept.

Elvira is pure sophistication. She slept in slinky silk and wore everyday dresses we’d probably wear to prom. I opted for something simpler. Hers was a shinny, probably wrap dress with a plunging v-neck. Mine is easier to use. It is a waist-whittling, bust-enhancing red dress with a less deep v-neck and also front slit like hers. For a 80s look, I’d go for heels, bangles and some pretty jewelry.

Let’s face the fact we can dress up as Jenny or Blair (Gossip Girl) and yet spare some money. Miss Selfridge launched a collection inspired in the characters, offering a non-expensive choice of clothes for all those ones looking to infuse a little preppy or rocker style into their wardrobes. The truth is we can save some cash and yet get pretty much the same look. I browsed on line stores and found alternatives.

You can create this rocker girl look with a retro-style corset bra (2) from Urban Outfitters (13 GBP) and a mini skirt or, even better, choose a lace tired dress (3) from Dorothy Perkins for 28 GBP (actually you get 10 GBP off today)

Blair look - you can get a floral 2-in-1 dress from Miss Sefridge for 45 GBP (4) or just pair a white blouse with a floral culotte. I found one for 18 GBP at Urban Outfitters (5) but I am buying a blue rose (6) one at Dorothy Perkins for 12 GBP

Do you know who they are and which movies are those scenes from?

Cinema and fashion have much influenced one another over time. Some movies are so fashionable, as if clothes were themselves part of the plot. Quite often, a movie character hits the screens and starts new fashion trends.

I like to look back at cinema's influence on our fashion sense. I can spend a whole weekend watching again and again those old iconic movies that influenced fashion and gave us the sense of classic style that lasts forever.

I have come up with a list of movies that I think has a lot to do with fashion. I will try to cover different film genres and not restrict my choice to old classic movies or films that won critical acclaims. It does not matter if it is a cult or a blockbuster, as long as it feels like fashion!

Cinema e moda sempre tiveram uma relação muito estreita, de mutua influencia, ao longo do tempo. Alguns filmes são tão fashion que as roupas praticamente fazem parta da trama. Frequentemente, personagens ficcionais dão origem a novas tendências de moda e modismos. Eu gosto de refletir sobre a influencia do cinema no nosso modo de ver e sentir a moda. Nada melhor que um final de semana dedicado aos filmes que marcaram a trajetória da moda, contribuindo para a criação do que hoje chamamos estilo clássico! Resolvi listar alguns filmes que, na minha opinião, tem muito a ver com a moda. Tentei cobrir gêneros diferentes e não restringir minha escolha aos clássicos, velhos filmes em preto e branco. Hello, my pretties!

I have been asking myself what is the point in keeping a blog no one is interested in (not even me).
If I had to write things no one are meant to read, I’d rather go for a diary, which I hate. But a diary should not be made publicle. Of this, I am sure.
So, what is the point?

I decided to blog for some reason I cannot remember though a completely new purpose prevail now. I need something to stick on. Something I am not supposed to do but I will keep doing it no matter what. I need a daily task to carry on. Discipline! It is all about discipline and blogging can be a good way to establish it.

Having said so, the only question now is… what is this blog about?

This blog is not a diary nor a `what I wore today` blog (tell everybody what I have done, ate or wore on a daily basis? No way! Having my life and wardrobe and shopping basket under scrutiny? No good. Not for me. There are many girls out there doing it in a better way than i could possibly do). I do not believe people would be interested in my ordinary routine anyway and since becoming the blogger of the moment is not my goal, from now on, I will be doing things my way.

I decided to pick just a few things I love, nice and pretty things I love (just to stay in theme with the blog title): clothes, movies and food. That is it! Not Fashion, Cinema and Gastronomy, just plain clothes, movies and food… deserts and chocolate most likely.

In order to make things easier I will start with 3 posts a week.

Statement black nails are definitely out. This season it is all about pastel. I have seen many beautiful options of pink, lilac and peach nail polishes. Good (and expensive) choices are Chanel Le Vernis in Rose Jade and in Lilac Sky. I love nail polishes made in Italy like KIKO and WJCON. Debby is an inexpensive yet good alternative.

Have you heard about Project PEP ? This project was developed to raise funds to the Simelela Rape Centre which provides care and counseling to victims of rape in South Africa.

Jimmy Choo, the famous ready-to-wear line of shoes and bags, designed a vibrant capsule collection (called Project Pep Collection) to support it. 25% of net sales will be donated to the Simelela Rape Centre in South Africa. The money goes towards providing the HIV-preventative treatment PEP (which must be taken within 72 hours of exposure to HIV) and counseling to victims of rape in South Africa, a country that has the highest count of rape in the world.

Planning in advance - spotted the shop the day before. Discovered where the main entrance is located and where to stand for a queue. I enjoyed talking with sale assistant over shop rules. H&M had limitations to make sure as many customers where able to buy from the collection.

In order to be the first to snap up thigh-high boots and skyscraping stiletto you need to get up early (no big deal. I had to be there even before the shop opens to take a few snap shot of the first buyers anyway).

It was still dawn when the first shopaholics started to show up (brave girls... and boys!).That was the perfect time to make new friends and get adjourned about private sales and fashion events.

Shopaholic and organizer! Making a (non official) list worked pretty fine. It granted us a place in the very first group having access to the shop.

A quick break. Long hours waiting. Keeping your place in line is not simple then we had turns to leave and have breakfast. There is always a nice pal who brings you cappuccino. Thanks!

Body guards and security to grant a better shopping experience. They started arriving around 7am. And we were already there.

Just in! Jimmy Choo for H&M collection arrived in a big truck plenty of boxes.

Every group of 20 people in line received a coloured bracelet with precise time for shopping in designed area. First were the green, than red and yellow….

You know what? We got the green bracelet, which means we were the very first ones in line! According to shop assistant, there were 20 items of every product so… do your maths.

As soon as the 160bracelets had gone, the `black market` was opened. Some girls got mad and started offering money to lucky first people in line to buy them shoes.

We were given a ten-minute window to buy what we wanted from the collection, so the advice was `if the Choo fits, buy it`. Will not tell you what ten minutes shopping experience can do to your credit card bill!!

But with so much glitz around, I think we need to keep it simple during the day. For a city-cool look, I would choose skinny jeans in bright colours with a simple tee or a plaid boyish shirt that unveils a flash of a bra.

Durante minhas viagens, fui experimentando produtos que hoje fazem parte da minha nécessaire. Acho importante ter alguns dentro da mala, ate porque lavanderia a seco custa caro, fora do Brasil, e você pode não ter muito tempo para procurar uma self service.
Vou mostrar alguns produtos que ocupam pouco espaço e são eficazes. Se você viaja com crianças ou é mochileiro, inclua-os na sua lista!

During my trips, I have tried hard to keep my clothes clean and in good condition. I am listing a few products that proved to be efficient.
If you are travelling with kid or backpacking, you might enjoy these tips.

1.Sabão liquido em sachet

2.Desinfetante em tablete. Da próxima vez que você morrer de amores por uma roupa numa feira de usados, vai descobrir a utilidade desse produto. Uma vez, comprei um casaco em Camden Market (Londres) e entrei na primeira lavanderia self service. Sai de la já usando meu (novo) casaco limpo e perfumado!

3. Folhinhas mágicas que, por enquanto, só encontrei na Itália. Você as coloca no fundo da lava-roupas e pode misturar roupas coloridas com brancas, sem risco de mancha-las. Fenomenal!

4. Sabão stick. Muito pratico. Tenho este ha uns 4 anos

5. Cabide /escova de roupas. Paguei pouco, numa lojinha chinesa, e não me arrependo

6. Mini calçadeiras . Único itemo dispensavel!

7. Kit de costura. Ganhei um estojinho retro muito fofo de uma querida tia, ha 20 anos. Desde então, tenho sempre um na bolsa do dia-a-dia. O da Sephora que é bem pequeno, dentro de um estojo. Em lojas chinesas você encontra um modelo que já vem com a linha enfiada na agulha (simples e genial!)

8. Ferro de viagem (dispensavel para quem se hospeda em um qualquer hotel acima de 2 estrelas)

9. Sabão em folhas para lingerie (tem que ter, meninas!)

10. Canetinha tira-mancha de roupas (cabe dentro da carteira)

Adoro viajar mas, fazer as malas sempre foi a parte difícil e chata de uma aventura que começa bem antes do embarque. Já passei por muitas situações, algumas difíceis, outras hilárias, como perder a conexão do vôo e ficar somente com a roupa do couro por 2 dias (imagine a angustia de não encontrar uma loja aberta, de madrugada, onde comprar uma escova de dentes) ou encher uma mala (extra) com compras e ter que pagar um novo bilhete aéreo pelo excesso de peso ! Com o tempo, fui aprendendo a me organizar e hoje viajo tranqüila, seja em vôos econômicos (onde tudo o que você pode carregar é uma bolsa de mão) que em viagens intercontinentais, onde a alegria de malas extras e quase nenhum limite de peso já me levou ao delírio de embarcar uma maquina secadora de roupas!

Por isso, sinto-me no papel de dar algumas dicas e trocar idéias sobre quais malas escolher, que roupas levar e tudo o que e necessario para garantir uma viagem serena e sem imprevistos degradáveis.

I love to travel but packing is always the most difficult part of such adventure. I have faced some difficult and funny situations, like missing the flight connection and been left without clothes for 2 days (not finding an open store where to buy a tooth brush can be very distressing) or filling up an extra luggage with purchases (just to find out that over weight fees can cost you as much as a new ticket!)

Over time I learned how to organize myself and nowadays I am OK flying either low cost (when all you can carry is a small cabin luggage or handbag ) and intercontinental business class trips, where the joy of extra luggage and almost no limit of weight took me once to the delirium of checking in a tumble dryer!). Therefore, I feel myself almost an expert and willing to give some tips on which luggage to choose, what clothes to pack and everything you need to bring in order to grant you a nice, safe trip.

Depois de estabelecer a destinação e duração da viagem, minha primeira preocupação é escolher mala certa. Malas são diferentes e levo em consideração, sobretudo, o meio de transporte.

Para viagens econômicas (low cost), a coisa mais importante é o tamanho. Nem arrisco nada maior que 55x40x20 cm. Escolho um modelo que pese o menos possível, pois geralmente o limite para malas de bordo não supera 10kg (lembremos que se paga por cada mala de porão e, no final das contas, o bilhete low cost pode custar tanto quanto um normal) .

Viagens para os EUA requerem malas com combinação TSA (ou corre-se o risco de ter o cadeado quebrado por um funcionário de aeroportos americanos). Se viajo de trem, escolho sempre um bolsão que caiba embaixo da poltrona (o vagão de malas pode ficar longe do assento e melhor não correr risco de ter a mala roubada). De carro, qualquer mala vai bem. Se algum amigo vai me encontrar no aeroporto, melhor me certificar do tamanho da mala do seu carro, antes de me colocar em uma situação constrangedora.

Achei a mala ideal ? Agora só me resta pensar no clima e no programa da viagem para uma primeira seleção de roupas (abordarei guarda-roupas de viagem em outro post). Começo, então, a pensar na nécessaire e todos os produtos de beleza (um vicio, confesso!). Depois de 11 setembro, severas normas de segurança restringem o embarque aéreo de líquidos. Melhor evitar a frustrante experiência de ser obrigada a jogar no lixo aquele perfume importado maravilhoso que você acabou de comprar. Nécessaire transparente e vários potinhos de plástico permitem dosar cada produto.

After establishing the destination and duration of the trip, my first concern is to choose the right luggage. Each luggage is different and lead in consideration, over all, the way of transport. When flying low cost, bare in mid the most important thing is your luggage size. Stick to a 55x40x20 cm bag or trolley. I choose a model that weighs possible the least, therefore generally the limit for weight does not surpass 10kg (remember since you have to paid for every check-in luggage, in the end of the accounts, the low cost ticket will cost you as much as regular one).

Trips to the States requires a TSA compliant luggage (avoid risking to have the lock broken by an employee of American airports). If I travel by train, I always choose a handbag that fits under my seat (the wagon we place the luggage can be far from the seat and better not to run risk to have it stolen). Traveling by car, any luggage is fine. If some friend picks me in the airport, I certify myself of the size of his car, before placing me in a weird situation.

Once I identify the ideal luggage, it only remains me to think about the weather and my schedule. Then I start browsing my closet for the right clothes to pack (I will approach trip wardrobes in another post). I go then for the beauty case and list all the products and make up I will need to pack (actually I am a kind of addicted to beauty products).
After 11 September, airport security rules restrict the boarding of liquids. Better to prevent the frustrating experience of being obliged to throw away that imported perfume you just bought. A transparent beauty case and some reusable and refillable bottles for gels, liquids and creams is all you need.

After carefully planning my Paris mini-break and missing the flight, the least I can do now is share with you a few tips I have learned over many years as a world hooper and travel writer . Aproveitando os últimos posts sobre a semana de moda em Milão, resolvi cair em campo e programar o que estarei usando na Primavera / Verão 2010. Nada melhor que pensar com antecedência sobre o que se vai usar na próxima estação. As roupas pro inverno já estão OK e a melhor pedida é ir digerindo as próximas tendências, escolhendo com calma o que pode entrar no guarda-roupa, o que combina com o estilo próprio. Pode ser um modelo parecido com o das passarelas, uma palette de cores ou apenas uma textura particular. Importante é captar a atmosfera do que ainda vai chegar ahs lojas e ir planejando pecas-chave. Isso dah a possibilidade de economizar muito, alem da vantagem de ser uma das primeiras a tirar do closet o modelo certo, na hora certa, antes que vire mania nacional. Garimpando as ofertas, pode-se encontrar varias pecas que não combinam com as tendências do momento, mas que estarão com tudo daqui a alguns meses. Palette de cores rigorosamente neutra para a coleção Primavera Verão 2010 de Max Mara. Muito kaki, branco e bege, com toques de ouro e bronze em casacos trench e calcas de alfaiataria (ahs vezes com um detalhe mais interessante de uma pince ou em versão cargo).
Gostei das influencias contrastantes com o estilo sóbrio dessa grife- o toque militar dos blazer e a sugestão de uma sensualidade sutil, na forma de blusas amplas e fluidas, que lembram uma lingerie. O estilo Max Mara eh inconfundível, clássico, soft-chic. Uma ou outra peca Max Mara no guarda-roupa assegura uma look classico, sempre elegante e que sobrevive a varias estações e modismos.

For Max Mara, Spring Summer 2010 comes in a muddy khaki, which added to the colour palette of beige, sand and ivory with a hint of gold. The army-look was echoed in the catwalk.
I particularly like the contrasting inspirations that spiked the traditional, tailored silhouette at MaxMara: a hint of the military and a suggestion of lingerie.

Imagine uma diva de Hollywood em plena noite do Oscar. Ou uma atriz da globo na festa de lançamento de uma novela. Flashes, exuberância, cores acentuadas, extravagância... Pois bem, a mulher Missoni da Primavera/Verão 2010 é exatamente o oposto! E, na minha opinião, nada mais belo e chique que as nuances ternas, pálidas, roupas leves desta coleção que propõe uma mulher etérea, doce e refinadissima. Sou meio suspeita pra falar dessa grife. Pra mim, ninguém sabe traçar fios e cores - em um jogo quase casual e ultra criativo, de resultado impecável e refinado - como os Missoni! Sem mais comentários... Apenas um ultimo conselho, se me permitem... qualquer centavo (e certamente serão muitos) que você gastar com uma peça Missoni, vale ah pena. Invista em uma, um cardiga que você goste. Dah pra usar a vida toda e ainda deixar de herança pra filha ou sobrinha. Com um pouco de paciência e determinacao, não precisa gastar um patrimônio. Preços abordáveis em vendas privadas, (recomendo buyvip) e outlets (como Woodbury Premium, em New York) permitem incorporar este grife ao nosso guarda-roupa.

Ahh pedido, resolvi publicar este post, dedicado ahs brasucas (desculpem a omissão dos acentos, mas meu teclado não `fala`português). Resolvi comentar sobre a Semana de Moda em Milão e Alice no Pais das Maravilhas (Tecnológicas), tema da coleção de Versace.
Amei as estampas que fazem referencia direta ao maravilhoso mundo de Alice e ao homônimo filme de Tim Burton (coelho branco e cartas de baralho em mini saias e vestidinhos sensuais e dinâmicos vão invadir a Primavera/Verão 2010 das Européias).
Alem da iconografia riquíssima, interesse especial por materiais (prestem atenção aos tecidos barrocos e utilizo da plástica ). A mulher contemporânea de Donatella Versace eh cheia de contradições, eh forte e frágil, seria e irônica. Sonha de olhos abertos, mas mantem os pés no chão. Enfim, um look certo pros dias em que a gente acorda com uma dose extra de ironia! Se quiserem antecipar a tendência ( já que o verão no Brasil chega antes) apostem em longos e esvoaçantes, vestidos coladinhos, estampas curiosas e muito branco com detalhes metalizados.

The fabric has a flattering draped-effect that feels luxurious and soft. Its elasticity allows crossing front or back. Work the lapel in different ways, so you can shift from one look to the next with ease. That’s the secret to get different looks. Play with asymmetric. When picking a color for your Convertible Dress, just bare in mind sometimes you'll need a tank (or a vest) to wear under it to get the most out of your dress. Choose a neutral color to contrast with a bright color tank.

One size fits all but l made alterations so it can fit better S/M and M/L sizes. If you decide to add fasteners (an alternative to pins) I 'll need your measurements (waist, hips ) to make it fit when wearing it as a pareo skirt. Actually all you need is a belt and brooches (not included but I will suggest you some nice ones).
The Convertible Dress is such a simple but genius design and you'll have fun playing and discovering new ways to wear it. I'll show you how to shift from one super cool look to the next with ease (I've been wearing it myself during my trips !)

When you move to a City of Art, after a while you risk getting used to all monuments and picturesque scenarios. But I just can't get enough of beauty and art. Every day I discover something nicer and prettier.

At the end of the one of the liveliest streets in my medieval town, stands Porta Trasimena - such amazing Arch of Etruscan origins. See what I've found today... A flautist and harpist playing the most beautiful music. What a perfect day!
